The York Mystery Plays, also known as the Wagon Plays because each theatre-set is mounted on a hand pushed wagon, will take place in York at four locations around the city; College Green, King’s Square, St Sampson’s Square and Dean’s Gardens on Sunday 28th June and Sunday 5th July. An evening performance will be staged in Shambles on the evening of Tuesday, 30th June at 7:45pm
The Company of Merchant Adventurers own and produce the final act of the Passion story with a play entitled ‘The Last Judgement’. Prior to commissioning our play, directed and produced for us by Alan Heaven, the Company have a private viewing of their play. This will be in our Hall (the Garden if at all possible) on Tuesday 23rd June. The performance of about 30 minutes will start at 7pm with a drinks reception with snacks preceding the performance from 6.30pm allowing members good time to make any supper arrangements that suit them.
This is a no cost event so please book your places so we can plan numbers and chill enough wine. We will also be seeking volunteers to help accompany our play on its circuit of performances on both the 28th June and 5th July so please let us know if you might be able to help. To bring colour to the event (and make it clear you belong to our Company), our escorts are robed in our Company regalia, irrespective if you are an Officer or Court Assistant….if the actors can use artistic licence, so can we!
