The Hall is located between Fossgate and Piccadilly, in the heart of York city centre, with the postcode YO1 9XD.

No, advance booking is not required for general admission – you can pay on arrival at the Hall.

Usual opening hours are from 10am to 4pm, with last admission 30 minutes before closing. Opening times may vary and the Hall can occasionally close for private events, so it’s best to contact us before you travel.

There is a standard adult admission charge, with concessions for students and seniors, and free or discounted entry for selected groups such as York Pass holders, York residents (50% off with proof of address), carers and some partner schemes. See our Tickets & pricing page for full details.

The Hall and Merchants’ Coffee House are cashless sites. We do not accept American Express.

Yes, for the price of a single visit your ticket gives you 12 months’ free admission from the date of your first visit.

Dogs on leads are welcome in the garden of the Hall and in the Merchants’ Coffee House. No dogs (with the exception of assistance dogs) are allowed in the Hall. 

Yes, the Hall sometimes closes for weddings, dinners and other private functions. If you are planning to visit more than a week in advance, we advise you to contact the Hall.

The Hall is fully accessible to wheelchair users; visitors with specific access needs are encouraged to contact the Hall ahead of their visit for detailed advice.

Yes, carers accompanying a paying adult who needs assistance receive free admission.

We have limited room for bag storage so these can be left in our cloakrooms at your own risk. 

Yes – serving locally roasted coffee and home-made cakes, the Merchants’ Coffee House is the perfect place to pause for a brew while immersed in history.

Our on-site gift shop offers locally sourced gifts, historically themed souvenirs and items linked to the Hall and its collections.

Yes, we have written guides in other languages and our Bloomberg Connects guide also provides translations.
